15th Meeting: Gothenburg, SE, July 2019 2019-07-10 12:39
Abstract
This contribution provides an analysis of the number of bits needed to encode various chroma QP mapping tables using the method provided in JVET-O0650. The set of tested mapping tables includes one that replicates the behaviour of CTC, but with an adjustment at low QP values such as to have equal luma and chroma QP values. Additionally, modifications to the encoding of syntax elements are proposed to reduce the number of bits typically needed to encode chroma QP mapping tables by about 20 to 40%.
JVET-O1166 AHG15: Efficient encoding of chroma QP tables using piecewise linear representations [F. Bossen, A. Segall (Sharp), A. K. Ramasubramonian, G. Van der Auwera (Qualcomm)] [late]

This was discussed Thursday 11 July at 1300 (GJS).

This is a further analysis responding to JVET-O1126. It is available for study.

15th Meeting: Gothenburg, SE, July 2019 2019-09-27 06:49
Abstract
This document defines common test conditions (CTC), conversion practices and software reference configurations to be used in the context of HDR/WCG video coding experiments after the 15th JVET meeting. These common test conditions are recommended for use in technical contributions to the 16th and following JVET meetings, as applicable.
JVET-O2011 JVET common test conditions and evaluation procedures for HDR/WCG video [A. Segall, E. François, W. Husak, S. Iwamura, D. Rusanovskyy] (2019-07-31)

As noted in section 10.3, the config files for HDR common test conditions should use chroma location type 2 for PQ content. Further study was recommended regarding HLG chroma location.

Remains valid – not updated: JVET-L1012 JVET common test conditions and evaluation procedures for 360° video [P. Hanhart, J. Boyce, K. Choi, J.-L. Lin] (2018-10-26)

15th Meeting: Gothenburg, SE, July 2019 2019-09-16 14:58
Abstract
This document defines Core Experiment 8 (CE8) on 4:4:4 screen content coding tools, to be performed for the upcoming Oct 2019 JVET meeting.
JVET-O2028 Description of Core Experiment 8 (CE8): 4:4:4 Screen Content Coding Tools [X. Xu, Y.-H. Chao, Y.-C. Sun, J. Xu]

It was noted that a CTC for 4:4:4 content has not been decided yet.

In the context of CE8, it was agreed that palette mode should be turned on in the anchors.

Future meeting plans, expressions of thanks, and closing of the meeting

Future meeting plans were established according to the following guidelines:

  • Meeting under ITU-T SG 16 auspices when it meets (ordinarily starting meetings on the Tuesday of the first week and closing it on the Wednesday of the second week of the SG 16 meeting – a total of 9 meeting days), and
  • Otherwise meeting under ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 29/WG 11 auspices when it meets (ordinarily starting meetings on the Wednesday prior to such meetings and closing it at lunchtime on the last day of the WG 11 meeting – a total of 9.5 meeting days).

In cases where an exceptionally high workload is expected for a meeting, an earlier starting date may be defined. For the upcoming meeting in October 2019, the SG16 parent-level meeting dates had been shifted after the JVET and MPEG meeting plans were established, which has caused an additional adjustment in the JVET dates.

Some specific future meeting plans (to be confirmed) were established as follows:

  • Tue. 1 (afternoon) – Fri. 11 October 2019 (planned to close by 1400), 16th meeting under ITU-T auspices in Geneva, CH.
  • Wed. 8 – Fri. 17 January 2020, 17th meeting under WG 11 auspices in Brussels, BE.
  • Wed. 15 – Fri. 24 April 2020, 18th meeting under WG 11 auspices in Alpbach, AT.
  • Tue. 23 June – Wed. 1...

Abstract
This document reports the cross check result of “Cross-check of JVET-O0186 (AHG15: Signalling of chroma Qp mapping table)”. The simulation was carried out under CTC. The result provided by the proponent was verified. It is confirmed that the result provided by proponent of JVET-O0186 was matched with the available testing result in this crosscheck.
JVET-O1021 Crosscheck of JVET-O0186 (AHG15: Signalling of chroma Qp mapping table) [K. Choi (Samsung)] General consideration of chroma QP mapping Discussion time Thursday 4 July 2110-2230 (GJS) Issues: Separate mapping tables for Cb and Cr – yes, should support this (also supporting a common table) SPS, PPS, or APSSPS Default(s) – no default Additional offsets prior to or after the mapping table (currently we have PPS and slice level offsets before the mapping) – PPS and slice level, offsets applied after the mapping table (deblocking continues to use only the picture level offset) Joint chroma coding handling – use a third table if not using a common table, and support a third offset at PPS and slice level (similar to what we’re doing now at the PPS and slice level) Additional issues: Degree of generality needed for the mapping table (slope constraints other than non-negative, and st...
