AHG15: efficient coding of qp_out_val
Abstract
The current VVC draft includes the ability to encode custom chroma QP mapping tables using a set of qpY and qpC pairs. Such pairs are delta coded as syntax elements delta_qp_in_val_minus1 and delta_qp_out_val. Two modified encodings of delta_qp_out_val are proposed. It is asserted that these modifications reduce the number of bits required to encode the mapping table by about 25-30% on average, while preserving a built-in constraint that restricts qpC to monotonically increase with qpY.
