AHG15: Using Wukong sequences in gaming CTC
Abstract
In JVET-AN0053, several new 4K gaming sequences have been donated to JVET. After initial expert viewing they have been found to more interesting/challenging than the 4K sequence currently part of the CTC test set. In this contribution results for the new sequences according to the gaming CTC JVET-AJ2027 are provided. It is proposed to include the new sequences into the CTC.
JVET-AO0207 AHG15: Using Wukong sequences in gaming CTC [J. Sauer, Y. Zhao, Y. Sun, E. Alshina (Huawei)]

In JVET-AN0053, several new 4K gaming sequences have been made available to JVET. After initial expert viewing they have been found to more interesting/challenging than the 4K sequence currently part of the CTC test set. In this contribution results for the new sequences according to the gaming CTC JVET-AJ2027 are provided. It is proposed to include the new sequences into the CTC.

It was commented that the Wukong sequences have relatively similar characteristics, and in particular for CTC (also regarding future standardization) the set of sequences should be more diversified.

It was agreed (as an intermediate solution) to include two of the Wukong sequences into class G2, and keep Baolei yard. This would make that class consist out of 6 sequences (3x HD, 3x 4K) and gives class G2 a larger variety rather than adding a new class with lack of variety. When development of a new standard starts, CTC would need to be updated anyway, and it would be good if more variety of gaming material (in terms of content, rendering, motion characteristics, etc.) would be available then.

Based on PSNR graphs in JVET-AO0207, Wukong3 (most challenging one), and Wukong 2 (somewhat medium challenging) were selected.
