CE1 tests 3.1.1, 3.1.2, 3.2.1, 3.2.2: Separate intra trees
Abstract
This contribution reports the results of CE1 tests 3.1.1, 3.1.2, 3.2.1 and 3.2.2. These tests consider the support for separate intra trees, or dual trees, within an inter slice. The motivation for these tests is to allow for the use of the same intra-coding tools in both intra and inter slices. The tests evaluate the performance of the proposed approach using the common test condition (CTC) as well as synthetically generated sequences. During the creation of the CE tests, it was understood that the CTC sequences do not contain a large number of intra-blocks in inter-slices, and so these synthetically generated sequences were also included in the test to create sequences with a large number of intra blocks in inter slices. The method used for creating these sequences was discussed during the CE test creation, and the purpose of the synthetic test is to better evaluate the coding efficiency improvement of supporting dual trees in both intra and inter-slices.
