CE1: Shared-separate partition tree in QT+BT configuration (Tests 5.3.1 and 5.4.1)
Abstract
This contribution reports the results of tests 5.3.1 and 5.4.1 of CE1. These tests evaluate the performance of enabling shared-separate partitioning trees (SST) for intra-coded regions in intra-slices and inter-slices, respectively, as described in JVET-J0026. Furthermore, these tests disable ternary tree (TT) partitioning. From the results of the tests, the proponents assert that for All-Intra configuration, shared-separate partitioning trees (SST) that do not use ternary trees (TT) reduce encoder runtime by 20% while providing coding performance similar to the anchor (which makes use of TT).
