AHG16: Clipping residual samples for ACT
Abstract
This contribution proposes to add one clipping at joint coding of chroma residuals (JCCR) module at decoder such that the reconstructed residuals of the JCCR do not exceed the dynamic range of 16-bit sign integers. Simulation results reportedly show that the proposed clipping operation has no coding performance impact under common test condition (CTC).

This contribution proposes to add one clipping to the input residual samples to inverse adaptive colour transform (IACT) module at decoder such that the reconstructed residuals along the VVC decoding path do not exceed the dynamic range of 16-bit sign integers. Simulation results reportedly show that the proposed clipping operation has minor performance impact under common test condition (CTC).
It was agreed that this is necessary.
