JVET-T0065 Conformance points for multilayer 8K [F. Bossen (Sharp)]
This contribution was presented in a joint session with parent bodies on Tuesday 13 October – see the notes in section 7.2.
Initial comments were collected at 1915 on Monday 12 October. There is no level supporting a 4K base layer and 8K enhancement layer. We could hypothetically change the Multilayer Main profile, add levels, or add profile(s) to address this.
It is asserted that the profile and level definitions provided in the first version of VVC are inadequate to support multilayer 8K applications. For example, no level definition can support a two-layer bitstream, where the highest layer is 8K and both layers use a typical random access coding structure such as defined in common test conditions. Changes to profile and level definitions are proposed to provide support for such use case.
Decision: It was agreed to establish such an additional level as proposed, for inclusion in JVET-T2019.
