CE4-related: Combined test of JVET-Q0268 and JVET-Q0123
Abstract
This contribution proposes a quality scalable GEO design built on the top of JVET-Q0268 and JVET-Q0123. JVET-Q0123 uses 14 GEO modes per PU shape which are a subset of 32 modes per PU shape supported by JVET-Q0268. To combine the two designs, the GEO mode index signalling method proposed in JVET-Q0507 is employed, in which a SPS flag is added with flag equal to 0 and 1 meaning 14 and 32 modes in use, respectively. The combined design provides one-level quality scalability and allows a less capable encoder to achieve decent gain when only 14 GEO modes are enabled on the encoder side.
