On TPM and GEO merge modes in presence of weighted prediction
Abstract
The proposal addresses the current VVC design issue related to how TPM merge mode is used in presence of slice-level weighted prediction. As requested at the previous JVET meeting, examples of subjective artifacts caused by this issue are provided. 3 mechanisms to solve the claimed problem are proposed. The 1st one disables TPM merge mode in such slices where weighted prediction is enabled. The 2nd one introduces a CU-level conformance constraint to disable the TPM coded block referring to the picture with weighted prediction factor. The 3rd mechanism enables deblocking filtering over the boundaries where blocking artifacts caused by this given design flaw can appear.
