JVET-Q0242 Cleanup for TPM, CIIP, and GEO in the colour format of 4:0:0 [L. Pham Van, G. Van der Auwera, A. K. Ramasubramonian, H. Huang, W.-J. Chien, M. Karczewicz (Qualcomm)]
In VTM and the current WD of VVC, the TPM blending process is carried out for both luma and chroma components without regard for the chroma format. In addition, in VTM7, the CIIP blending process is also performed for the chroma components in any chroma format. However, the chroma components are not existing in the 4:0:0 colour format. This contribution proposes cleanups for the TPM and CIIP modes by disabling the blending process of these modes for the chroma components in YUV 4:0:0 format. In the case of GEO (studied in CE4), it is also recommended to disable the GEO weighted blending process for the chroma components in YUV 4:0:0.
This was presented in Track B on Monday 13 January at 2000 (chaired by JRO).
The contribution points out some inconsistencies in the SW only for CIIP, as well as in the spec + SW for TPM and GEO.
Decision (BF/text+SW): Adopt JVET-Q0242.
Proponents are asked to communicate with the proponents of the adopted GEO version (integrated text JVET-Q0806). The suggested fixes should be included into the integrated GEO text.
