Non-CE3: Removal of block size restriction in MIP
Abstract
This contribution proposes to remove block size restriction in matrix intra prediction (MIP). In VVC, the MIP is disabled when the difference between block width and height is greather than predetermined threshold. This contribution proposes to remove block size restriction in matrix intra prediction (MIP) so that the MIP can generally be applied as other intra coding tools and MIP flag parsing does not need to depend on block shape.
JVET-P0535 Non-CE3: Removal of block size restriction in MIP [J. Choi, J. Heo, J. Lim, S. Kim (LGE)]

This contribution proposes to remove block size restriction in matrix intra prediction (MIP). In VVC, the MIP is disabled when the difference between block width and height is greater than predetermined threshold. This contribution proposes to remove block size restriction in matrix intra prediction (MIP) so that the MIP can generally be applied as other intra coding tools and MIP flag parsing does not need to depend on block shape.

Experimental results for proposed method show -0.03% luma BD-rate change in class A1 for AI configuration.
