AhG16/Non-CE5: On deblocking at ALF virtual boundaries
Abstract
Due to the adoption of deblocking filter at 4×4 luma grid, deblocking may be applied on a horizontal edge coinciding with a ALF virtual boundary (VB). Therefore, samples below the ALF VB shall be filtered together with those above the ALF VB. In this case, the previous pipeline processing is asserted to be influenced and extra computations for samples below the ALF VB would be necessary. In this contribution, it is proposed to disable the luma deblocking on horizontal edges coinciding with the ALF virtual boundaries. The proposed modification was tested under the JVET CE5 test conditions, and the overall BD-rate changes for {Y, Cb, Cr} are listed as follows.
