In VTM 5.0, PDPC is applied differently to the top-right and the bottom-left diagonal modes (modes 2 and 66) than to their adjacent angular modes. In this contribution, it is first shown that the PDPC applied to these two modes can be simplified to the same form as applied to their adjacent modes. Thus the two PDPC methods can be merged into a single PDPC method. In the second step, it is also shown that the resulting merged method can be simplified further by simplifying intermediate computations. The proposed merging leads to identical BD-rate performances with reduced encoding and decoding times.
