CE8-4.1 : Rearrangement of the residual block for transform skip
Abstract
This contribution reports the results of test CE8-4.1, reordering residuals for intra predicted and transform skipped blocks. There are three methods - rearranging residuals by flipping (test a), rotating (test b), and combining flipping and rotating together (test c). The experimental results for this CE tests are reported in the tables below:
JVET-N0428 CE8-4.1: Rearrangement of the residual block for transform skip [S. Yoo, J. Choi, J. Heo, J. Choi, L. Li, J. Lim, S. Kim (LGE)]

In this test, the residual blocks which are not transformed (coefficient blocks defined in a pixel domain) are manipulated according to the prediction modes. General residual coding is designed for the transformed blocks so that the statistics of each syntax element may become undesirable when a transform-skipped block is coded, thus degrading the coding efficiency. When the currently coded block is intra-predicted, the intra prediction mode can be used for vertical / horizontal flip. In addition, rotating blocks and the combination of rearrangement methods are tested.
