A hemisphere cubemap projection format is proposed to represent hemisphere 180⁰ x 180⁰ omnidirectional images or video, such as those captured by a single fisheye lens. The proposed hemisphere cubemap format, called HCMP, contains one full cube face and four half cube faces, representing the hemisphere. The faces and half faces are arranged in a different, more compact layout than used in the existing CMP format, in order to reduce the picture size, by eliminating inactive regions. The proposed layout can be used with any cube-based projection format, and is proposed for a hemispherical version of the Equi-Angular Cubemap (EAC) format, called HEAC. It is proposed to add the new HCMP and HEAC formats to the 360Lib software.
