CE1.2.0.10: CU partitioning along picture boundaries
Abstract
This contribution reports the results of Core Experiment 1.2.0.10 (CE1.2.0.10). The proposed method reportedly supports to select either quadtree (QT) split or binary-tree (BT) split for partitioning the out-of-bounds coding units (CUs), which are not entirely contained within the current picture region. The proposed method is reportedly involved minor modifications to the current partitioning rules for handling the regular in-bounds CUs. It reportedly does not need to utilize a separate set of the constraint parameters dedicated to handling the CUs partitioned from the out-of-bounds coding tree units (CTUs). The proposed method reportedly achieves average luma BD-rate reductions of 0.05%, 0.30%, and 0.49% for the AI, RA, and LB, respectively, under the VTM-1.0 common test conditions (CTCs) with all BMS tools off. The proposed method reportedly achieves average luma BD-rate reductions of 0.05%, 0.34%, and 0.67% for the AI, RA, and LB, respectively, under the BMS-1.0 CTCs with all BMS tools on.
