JVET-D0030 AhG8: segmented sphere projection (SSP) for 360-degree video content [C. Zhang, Y. Lu, J. Li, Z. Wen (OwlReality)]

This contribution proposed a projection format called segmented sphere projection (SSP) for 360-degree video content.

It was proposed to split the content into three regions, and pack with a black area. A coding comparison was given between SSP and ERP and CMP, using CPP based metric. The results were very content-dependent.

With 3 segments, SSP uses 75% of the ERP area.
