Non-CE3: Simplified MIP with reduced memory footprint
Abstract
This contribution proposes to reduce the MIP memory footprint by 50% with low impact on coding performance. The number of stored matrices is significantly reduced, keeping only four matrices per MipSizeId. The retained matrices are aligned to the same offset value, which enables to simplify the specification. To keep matrix diversity, it is proposed to generalize input vector transposition. In order to simplify the prediction process, the transposition information is explicitly derived from signalling which enables to remove some logic. The performance of the proposed design has been assessed on CTC, Low-QP and external datasets (Open-Images/DIV2K), showing negligible losses.
