CE2-related: Removal of luma-chroma dependency in LMCS
Abstract
This contribution proposes to remove the luma-chroma dependency for chroma residual scaling in the luma mapping with chroma scaling (LMCS). Instead of using the reconstructed luma samples to derive a scaling factor on-the-fly, a fixed chroma scaling factor for each LMCS model is used. This fixed chroma scaling factor is calculated once according to a representative luma sample, and then used for all blocks that refer to the same LMCS model. Two methods are provided to select the representative luma sample, including using a selected LMCS bin index and a luma value in the reshaped domain.
