CE6-related: Simplification of the Reduced Secondary Transform
Abstract
This contribution proposes a simplification of the Reduced Secondary Transform (RST) [CE6-3.1, JVET-N0193]. By also enforcing all the primary transform coefficients to be zero, that are outside the support of the RST transform matrix, the encoder and decoder runtime can be reduced significantly, while the coding gain keeps almost the same. Tests were performed on top of three different RST configurations of CE6-3.1 plus one additional configuration (test 1), which combines the reduced memory version with the worst-case multiplication per sample constraint of JVET-N0193. Compared to CE6-3.1d the encoder runtime overhead is halved for AI (113% vs 126%) with a negligible effect on the performance (AI: -1.28% vs. -1.34%).
