CE3-2.3.3 and CE3-2.3.4:Interpolation filter selection regarding intra mode and block size
Abstract
This contribution proposes a method to select a suitable interpolation filter for intra prediction. In the proposed method, one of two different interpolation filters is chosen - cubic and Gaussian filter according to a current intra prediction direction and the block size. In Test CE3-2.3.3, the interpolation filters in JEM were used, and the 6-tap cubic filter and 4-tap Gaussian filter were used in Test CE3-2.3.4. The simulation results reportedly show that Y BD-rate decreases 0.54%, 0.28%, 11.72% and 16.02% for VTM-AI, VTM-RA, BMS-AI and BMS-RA, respectively, in Test CE3-2.3.3. Also, the coding efficiency is achieved approximately 0.58%, 0.30%, 11.76% and 16.04% for VTM-AI, VTM-RA, BMS-AI and BMS-RA, respectively.
