JVET-AO0080 AHG9: On photosensitive content information SEI message [C. Kim, H. Tan, J. Lee, J. Nam, J. Lim, S. Kim (LGE)]
This contribution proposes the following items for the photosensitive content information (PCI) SEI message:
- Item 1: Modify byte alignment condition for PCI description strings
- Item 2: Method for signalling application-defined photosensitivity classification
It was noted that the reserved bits were intended to allow for future values.
It was questioned if there are use cases where both the standard indicators and the application defined indicators are needed. It is noted that in the current design, the standard indicators have a value to indicate unknown.
It was noted that the current semantics described values in the order 1, 0, 2, 3, which is somewhat confusing and it is suggested to make an editorial change to put in 0, 1, 2, 3 order.
It seems strange to have an unknown value for the application-defined indicator when there is a presence flag.
Two possible options to avoid that situation:
- a presence bit followed by a single bit indicator
- no presence bit and a two bit indicator which includes an unknown value. This could use two of the current 4 reserved bits
No action was taken on item 1.
It was agreed to add a 2 bit application-defined indicator, without a presence flag, using 2 of the 4 current reserved bits. The semantics to be aligned the current std1, etc. indicators, which will be editorially change to be in order of 0, 1, 2, 3.
