JVET-AJ0258 AHG9: Refinement and extension of IFM SEI message [P. de Lagrange, D. Doyen, E. François, F. Urban, C. Salmon-Legagneur (InterDigital)] [late]

In the context of the image format metadata SEI message considered in JVET-AI2023, this contribution first proposes a formulation of semantics for Exif metadata (when ifm_type_id equals zero) that avoids normative reference to CIPA and JEITA or a specific version of an Exif document, leveraging the fact that Exif attributes are stored as a TIFF data structure that must contain specific information. This contribution further proposes to extend the IFM SEI message to support metadata as TIFF data structures not tied to Exif with a new value of ifm_type_id.

ISO 12639 is a TIFF specification.

It was suggested that we will be able to reference Exif in January 2025. A.5 Process in ITU can be used to create new normative references. Japanese National Body is helping resolve.
