JVET-AJ0217 Template-based intra interpolation filter [C. Zhou, Z. Lv, G. Wang (vivo)]
This contribution proposes a template-based intra interpolation filter (TMIF) method. A list filled with filter candidates is constructed. The template cost is used to select the best filter candidate among them.
On top of the ECM14.0, simulation results are reported as below:
AI: -0.03% (Y), 0.04% (U), -0.05% (V), 100.9% (EncT), 100.5% (DecT)
This contribution is related to JVET-AJ0116 from Alibaba, which was already decided to be included in the next round of EE. It was asked if there was any objection to Y. Ye chairing the discussion. No objection was raised.
It was asked what was the reason for encoder and decoder runtime. The proponent reported that this is largely due to the need to calculate template costs multiple times.
It was commented that this is quite similar to JVET-AJ0116 with difference only in details. It was commented that one EE test as a combined method of the two proposals (JVET-AJ0116 and JVET-AJ0217) is needed, and this EE test should aim at reducing runtime and achieving better performance vs. complexity tradeoff.
It was agreed to investigate this in an EE. One test as a combined method from JVET-AJ0116 and JVET-AJ0217.
