EE2-2.6: ARMC merge candidate list reordering for AMVP-merge mode
Abstract
This contribution proposes to use ARMC for merge candidate list reordering of AMVP-merge mode. In this mode, a merge candidate with the smallest cost after reordering is paired with the first AMVP candidate to derive the prediction. The proposed method was implemented on top of ECM-7.0. Test A applies the proposed approach based on low delay condition. It reports {-0.01%, -0.04%, -0.24%} BD-rate reduction for YUV with 97% encoding and 101% decoding runtime compared to ECM-7.0 for LB configuration, and no noticeable changes in RA. Test B selects bilateral or template matching reordering in AMVP-merge mode at CU level for random access configuration. It reports 2% encoding and 3% decoding runtime reduction with no performance change.
