This contribution proposes to introduce new mode for DIMD, named adaptive reference region DIMD. The proposed DIMD consists of DIMD_TL (top and left), DIMD_L (left) and DIMD_T (top) where a new syntax element is signalled to select neighboring reconstructed pixels (reference region) used to derive a prediction direction (DIMD intra mode). The experimental results reportedly show that the average luma BDrate gain of the proposal is 0.1 % and 0.06 %, under AI and RA respectively.
