JVET-AJ0070 AHG9: Editorial and technical problems in the draft of VSEI v4 and their solutions [T. Chujoh, Z. Fan, R. Ishimoto, T. Ikai (Sharp)]

VSEI version 4 has reached the CDAM stage on the ISO/IEC standard process. This contribution reports several editorial and technical problems for NNPFC and OMI SEI messages in the draft document of VSEI version 4 and proposes their solutions.

Comment 1 agreed: byte alignment should be added only when the syntax element nnpfc_application_purpose_tag_uri_present_flag equals 1.

Comment 2 agreed: use f(1) instead of u(1) for nnpfc_alignment_zero_bit_a.

Comment 3 agreed: use u(1) for omi_mask_pic_update_flag[ i ]

Comment 4 agreed: byte alignment should be added only when needed.

Comment 5: The number of bits seems excessive. Further discussion requested after consideration of what range would be appropriate. May want to have a different numbering space for an index and for an ID.

Comment 6 agreed: update semantics to add condition for omi_mask_cancel[ i ][ j ].

Comment 7 proposes to more fully define what the confidence means. It was noted that the current language is similar to that used in the Annotated regions SEI confidence related syntax elements.

It was suggested that the proposed language doesn’t state that higher values indicate more confidence.

It was also pointed out that the semantics refer to omi_num_aux_pic_layer instead of for omi_num_aux_pic_layer_minus1 in several places.

Decision: Adopt comments 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6.

Change omi_mask_id_length_minus1 to be in the range of 0 to 15.

This document contains the report of the BoG on group of tools with large memory access. The BoG met on 11/6 Wednesday 10:15am –11:35am.

Mandates

With regard to AHG7 activities, it was agreed to establish a new group of tools with large memory access, e.g by needing large lookup tables. It is however also necessary to take into account the granularity of usage, e.g. it is different if a large amount of coefficient values needs to be reloaded for every 4x4 block or for an entire CTU.

This BoG was to further work on criteria, and set up a list of tools that would be added to such a group.
