AHG9: On high-level syntax for smoothing intra prediction tools
Abstract
This contribution provides additional functionality on top of JVET-S0072 and JVET-S0136. It is proposed to disable smoothing operations in intra prediction process by introducing HLS flags. The difference with JVET-S0072 and JVET-S0136 is in two aspects. The 1st aspect consists in disabling both reference sample filter and smoothing interpolation filter (one of the two interpolation filters used for angular prediction) for computer-generated content. The 2nd aspect addresses the problem of mixed content support. It is proposed to introduce additional flags to have a mechanism for disabling smoothing operations subject to content type (sensor-generated or computer-generated) on slice level.
