AHG12: Entry point offsets avoiding start code emulation prevention byte
Abstract
This contribution proposes to modify the syntax structure for signalling entry point offsets. An encoder needs to know the number of bits in each subset of the current slice in order to write entry point offsets into the slice header. Some real time encoders achieve it by updating this syntax field after finishing encoding the slice. This contribution proposes two items to simplify this encoding operation: (1) byte align before entry point offset field for easier updating during encoding; (2) separate entry point offsets by one bit equal to one and divide into upper and lower bits to avoid start code emulation without the need for an emulation prevention byte.
