AHG9: On signalling of chroma related APS
Abstract
This contribution proposes cleanup of chroma related adaptation parameter set (APS) signalling. In the current specification, in order to avoid redundant signalling, it is allowed not to send chroma related scaling list by signalling chroma_scaling_list_enabled_flag as proposed in JVET-Q0505. This could be beneficial when the input video is monochrome. However, there remains redundancy in APS when signalling chroma related adaptive loop filter (ALF) parameters. In this contribution, it is proposed to send chroma_aps_enabled_flag in APS syntax instead of signalling chroma_scaling_list_enabled_flag, and the proposed flag commonly controls the signalling of scaling list, ALF and CCALF parameters associated with chroma component.
