AHG9: Overhead reduction for picture header and slice header
Abstract
This contribution proposes to modify the high-level syntax in the VVC Draft 8 for a further overhead reduction in the picture header (PH) and the slice header. The proposed methods signal a new syntax element ph_multiple_slice_types_in_pic_flag in the PH for specifying whether more than one slice types may be present in the coded picture. When ph_multiple_slice_types_in_pic_flag is equal to 0, a new syntax element ph_slice_type is further signalled to specify the slice type for all slices of the picture. The syntax element slice_type in the slice header is not coded and is inferred to be equal to the value of ph_slice_type.
