CE4-Related: Look-Up Table Free Weighting Index to Sample Blending Weight Calculation By Using Piecewise Constant Function in GEO
Abstract
In core experiment 4, some computational complexity reduction methods are studied, including partition mode reduction, supporting coding block reduction, and coding tool disabling. However, two look-up tables are still necessary for sample blending weight calculation in geometric merge mode (GEO). The first table is used for cosine table look-up, and the seond one is designed to derive the final sample blending weight from weighting index. In this contribution, a look-up table free weighting index to weight calculation method by using piecewise constant function is proposed to eliminate the above second table such that blending weights of all samples in a blockcould be parallelly calculated on-the-fly, which is reported as much more friendly for both hardware and software implementation. The proposed method is implemented on top of CE4 common base. It is reported that under the CTC, compared with VTM-7.0, the overall performance impact are as following:
