AHG17/Non CE-4: Restrict integer-pel fetch for BDOF and RPOF for subpicture
Abstract
This contribution proposes disabling fetch reference sample from different subpicture(s) during BDOF and PROF process to support treating a subpicture as a picture in the decoding process. When a subpicture is treated as a picture, restrictions are placed on the derivations processs for (advanced) temporal luma motion vector prediction, luma sample bilinear interpolation process, luma sample 8-tap interpolation filtering process and chroma sample interpolation process. However, it is asserted that the current Working Draft (WD 6) of the Versatile Video Coding (VVC) specification text, references samples outside the subpicture boundary that could be fetched as part of the integer reference sample process for the gradient computation in BDOF and PROF. This proposal therefore, presents a restriction on the Luma integer sample fetching. Additionally It is assert that Fractional sample interpolation processes, by disallowing the samples to span outside the subpicture boundaries.
