In the VVC working draft 5, there are two control flags to indicate whether the L1 motion vector difference (MVD) syntax may be bypassed when parsing the bitstream. Firstly, when the flag mvd_l1_zero_flag in the current slice is equal to true, the L1 MVDs of bi-predicted coding units (CUs) in the slice will be always inferred as zero without signaling. Secondly, when the flag sym_mvd_flag of one bi-predicted CU is true, only the L0 MVD is signaled and the L1 MVD is inferred to be the opposite value to the L0 MVD. In this contribution, two methods are proposed to handle the interaction between the two control flags.
