Three modifications are proposed in this proposal. First it is proposed to use three fixed MPMs to replace the neighbouring-based MPM list construction process for MIP. Second, a block coded with regular intra mode cannot utilize the mode information of a neighbouring block coded with MIP mode when constructing the MPM list. Third, DM mode for a chroma block is associated with a fixed mode (Planar) when the corresponding luma block is coded with MIP. With the three modifications, the mode-mapping tables between MIP modes and regular intra prediction modes are totally removed and the MPM list construction process for the MIP coded blocks is removed. The simulation results reportedly show that the BD-rate changes are 0.01% for AI, and 0.01% for RA with no impact on encoding/decoding time.
