CE3: Decoder-side Intra Mode Derivation (tests 3.1.1, 3.1.2, 3.1.3 and 3.1.4)
Abstract
This contribution presents the simulation results of Decoder-side Intra Mode Derivation (CE3, JVET-L0164, tests 3.1.1, 3.1.2, 3.1.3 and 3.1.4) on top of VTM-3.0. Modifications carried out on the algorithm with respect to JVET-L0164 are reported. The results for test 3.1.1 show -0.11% gain on average in AI for 122% encoding time and 103% decoding time. The average gain increases to -0.12% for test 3.1.3 where the gradient analysis is extended to directly neighboring pixels. The gains are particularly interesting for class F sequences (-0.38% gain in AI, -0.30% in RA). Test 3.1.4 shows encoding time reductions with only a small gain reduction when applying DIMD on blocks smaller than 128 samples (113% encoding time for -0.09% gain on average).
