Technologies related to the Adaptive Loop Filter (ALF) are currently being studied in the Core Experiment 2 (CE2). This proposal reports the test results of the ALF simplification in CE2 Test 2.7.1. In this test, derivative calculation for the highest temporal layer pictures of RA configuration is simplified by computing derivatives only at the top-left sample position of each 2×2 luma block. It is reported that applying this simplification to the VTM-2.0.1 anchor yields an average decoding speedup of 2% with a small loss of 0.02% for the RA configuration, and no impact for other configurations.
