CE13: Hybrid angular cubemap projection (Tests 4.1 and 4.2)
Abstract
This contribution reports simulation results of CE13 tests 4.1 and 4.2. The hybrid angular cubemap projection (HAC) format is a generalization of the EAC projection format. The horizontal and vertical sampling functions can be adjusted for each face adaptively based on the content. Results based on end-to-end WS-PSNR show that HAC provides luma BD-rate savings over PERP of -11.73% and -11.52% for VTM and BMS configurations, respectively. Compared to CMP, HAC provides luma BD-rate savings of -8.75% and -8.70% for VTM and BMS configurations, respectively. Compared to EAC, HAC provides luma BD-rate savings of -0.24% and -0.33% for VTM and BMS configurations, respectively. Guard bands of 4 luma samples yield a luma BD-rate loss of about 0.6%.
