CE13: Equi-angular cubemap projection (Tests 3.1 and 3.2)
Abstract
This contribution reports simulation results of CE13 tests 3.1 and 3.2. The equi-angular cubemap projection (EAC) format is a cube-based projection format that aims at having a uniform sampling rate regardless of sampling location on a cube face. Results based on end-to-end WS-PSNR show that EAC provides luma BD-rate savings over PERP of -11.53% and -11.24% for VTM and BMS configurations, respectively. Compared to CMP, EAC provides luma BD-rate savings of -8.56% and -8.42% for VTM and BMS configurations, respectively. Guard bands of 4 luma samples yield a luma BD-rate loss of 0.58% for both VTM and BMS configurations.
