CE1: Partitioning Structure in JVET-J0024 (Tests 1.0.12, 1.0.13, 1.0.14, and 1.0.15)
Abstract
This contribution presents a partitioning structure proposed in JVET-J0024. The proposed structure allows binary and triple trees (BTT) for block partitioning, and introduces restrictions of ratio between width and height, and size of a block to reduce search space in encoder. Based on the partitioning structure proposed in JVET-J0024, in this contribution four tests are conducted; (1.0.12) BTT with quad tree split on the top level of CTU, (1.0.13) BTT without quad tree split on the top level of CTU, (1.0.14) VVC with block ratio restriction, and (1.0.15) VVC with block ratio and size restrictions. When the simulation for four tests is conducted based on VTM, results reportedly show -0.88% BD-rate with 146% and 97% encoding and decoding time under AI, 0.68% BD-rate with 74% and 100% encoding and decoding time under RA, and 0.38% BD-rate with 85% and 99% encoding and decoding time under LD for test (1.0.12), -0.87% BD-rate with 159% and 98% encoding and decoding time under AI, 0.04% BD-rate with 85% and 99% encoding and decoding time under RA, and 0.08% BD-rate with 98% and 98% encoding and decoding time under LD for test (1.0.13), no performance change under AI, 0.10% BD-rate with 85% and 97% encoding and decoding time under RA, and 0.17% BD-rate with 92% and 98% encoding and decoding time under LD for test (1.0.14), and no performance change under AI, 0.41% BD-rate with 74% and 97% encoding and decoding time under RA, and 0.31% BD-rate with 80% and 98% encoding and decoding time under LD for test (1.0.15).
