CE8: Intra Region-based Template Matching (Test 8.1)
Abstract
This document presents the test results of intra region-based template matching, which is one of the methods considered for studying in the core experiment (CE8) group. The proposed method achieves an overall BD-rate gain of -1.41% for the all intra (AI) configuration with a 116% decoder run-time and a 214% encoder run-time against VTM-1.0. For the random access (RA) configuration, the overall coding gain is -0.44% with a 103% decoder run-time and a 117% encoder run-time while for the low delay (LB) configuration the overall gain is -0.10% with a 101% decoder run-time and a 109% encoder run-time. The experimental results against BMS-1.0 for the all intra (AI) configuration show a -1.01% overall BD-rate gain with a 104% decoder run-time and a 113% encoder run-time. For the random access (RA) configuration, the overall gain is -0.31% with a 101% decoder run-time and a 105% encoder run-time, while for the low delay (LB) configuration the overall gain is -0.15% with a 100% decoder run-time and a 102% encoder run-time. Improved results of RTM by applying it to both luma and chroma components are reported in JVET-K0050.
