JVET-AJ0308 AHG9: Leading pictures and the SPTI SEI message [J. Samuelsson-Allendes, S. Deshpande (Sharp)] [late]

This input contribution relates to the Source Picture Timing Information (SPTI) SEI message which is included in the Additional SEI messages for VSEI version 4. The proposal in this document is intended to address a problem that is highlighted in JVET-AJ0252 related to the combination of SPTI and temporal layering and leading pictures. It is asserted that the proposal in this input contribution solves the problem in a manner that is robust to temporal scalability and in alignment with the current design of the SPTI.

It was agreed that the identified issue with the current design only applies to leading pictures.

It was suggested that it may be possible to have an alternative design using inference instead of a new syntax element, but that may be difficult to make a design that works for multiple codecs – VVC, HEVC, AVC.

Decision: Adopt.
