This contribution proposes a display overlays information SEI message. The information conveyed in the SEI message can be used to form a target display picture, which is formed by overlaying multiple display overlays in a specified order. A display overlay has a texture component and an optional alpha component, which are rectangular sample regions. Each component can be coded as a picture, a subpicture, or a constituent rectangle in a single layer or multi-layer CVS. Use cases for the proposed SEI message include score overlays, title overlays, logo insertion, product placement, and background replacement.
