This contribution provides a short description of the VTM software implementation of the Film Grain Regions Characteristics (FGR) SEI message, with some showcase examples. The FGR SEI message, defined in JVET-AG0328, was documented in the TuC at the last JVET meeting. The so-called FGR SEI message has been integrated into the VTM, allowing to parse the configuration files, insert the SEI message into the bitstream, parse the SEI message on the decoder side and instantiate a dedicated region-based synthesizer that outputs the resulted processed decoded video in a specific file, similarly to the FGC behavior.
