EE2-1.11: IntraTMP search range extension with adaptive sampling
Abstract
This contribution reports the experiment results of EE2-1.11 tests. It aims at harmonizing the IBC and IntraTMP search areas using an adaptive sampling rate during the sparse stage. In the existing ECM design, the IBC search area is delineated by a fixed number of CTU rows. Conversely, the IntraTMP search area is dynamically determined based on the dimensions of the current block, typically smaller than the IBC search area. IntraTMP searches for the most similar template that matches the current block template. To mitigate the computational complexity associated with template matching, a consistent sampling factor of 3 is uniformly applied in both horizontal and vertical search directions within IntraTMP. However, extending the IntraTMP search area to align with the IBC dimension leads to a notable increase in computational load.
