EE2-2.1 DIMD merge
Abstract
This contribution reports the results for EE2 Test 2.1a and Test 2.1b which were proposed in JVET-AE0071. The method proposes to merge the Decoder-side Intra Mode Derivation (DIMD) information from neighbouring blocks to predict the current block. When neighbouring blocks encoded with DIMD are available, the DIMD histograms are combined to form a new DIMD Merge histogram for the current block. DIMD Merge modes and weights are computed based on this merged histogram. Two tests are conducted in this EE. In Test 2.1a, all the amplitudes from the DIMD histogram of the neighbouring DIMD or DIMD merge blocks are used to generate the DIMD histogram for the DIMD merge mode. In Test 2.1b, only the five highest amplitudes from the DIMD histogram of the neighbouring DIMD or DIMD merge blocks are used to generate the DIMD histogram for the DIMD merge mode, resulting in reduced memory requirements compared to Test 2.1a. The impact on coding efficiency and runtimes of the tests over ECM-10.0 are reportedly {for Y, U, V, EncT, DecT, VmPeak}:
